What's new?

The current version is 1.55 of 18 October 2026. The detailed notes for each version are on GitHub.

If you’ve been counting: 1.44 to 1.49 are six versions in three days. That was the storm-and-stress phase 😉 From now on changes are collected and released less often – unless a bug costs data or stops someone in their tracks.

1.5518 Oct 2026Every detail of an event from the server (age, cause of death, agency, phone, e-mail and more, labelled in your language) in the timeline, the person sheet and in print. Needs api4webtrees 1.23.
1.5415 Oct 2026Book visibility in three levels: everything, what members may see, what visitors may see (#21). CompGen meta search for any person (Person menu and right-click, also in gedaudit): surname and, if you like, a place.
1.5314 Oct 2026Complete GEDCOM-L: every item of the addendum shown (address, GOV identifier, postal code and Maidenhead locator at events, unique identifier, highlighted image, research task fields, earlier names, postal codes, municipality key and population at location records); family status, main image and task fields editable, every GEDCOM-L item kept when saving. Books with “Only what visitors may see” (the website always). Life years of the proband under the book title and in one form everywhere. Simpler local heritage book view, tidier menus, logo. Needs api4webtrees 1.21.
1.5213 Oct 2026Local heritage book as a layout of the main window (place filter, numbered families, entries as printed with jumping pointers, names open the person sheet, houses on the right); family book as a website (start page, all families, every family on its own page, houses, indexes, stylesheet, pictures) and per person as a person report; living people in full, name only or omitted with an age limit; preface from file; book templates (.wtbuch); update check once a day with a line in the status bar (Help › Check for updates); Geovis link in the place window; houses in books with their place.
1.5113 Oct 2026Addresses to houses (Tools › Clean up places: an address under a residence becomes a place of its own with location record, type, GOV type and pointer 3 _LOC), File › Save as GEDCOM for the tree on this PC (GEDCOM or GEDZIP with pictures), View › Place display (full, city and country, country code, home country), fan chart and ancestor circle by sex or grandparent lines, Ctrl+C and right-click copy in the person sheet, Dutch translation completed. Addresses need api4webtrees 1.20.
1.5012 Oct 2026Houses and farms for other programs: pointer 3 _LOC to the location record at events (farm list of the Online-OFB), GOV type in the place dialog, “Link events” in Clean up places, earlier and church assignments are kept (api4webtrees 1.19). The map follows the mouse when dragged, dates in books in your own language, “Go to” in every layout, anniversaries “living only”, identifier and Ctrl+C for the person text.
1.4911 Oct 2026Tools menu: date calculator and church year and feast days; the plausibility check, merging individuals and cleaning up places moved there. Nicknames in quotation marks (api4webtrees 1.18.2). On phones and tablets: look up sources and places, view and tag faces on group photos, postcards with their back.
1.4811 Oct 2026Archive of the Sammlungen module in a window of its own (View › Archive, Ctrl+9) with everything the browser can do: create, edit, hide and delete collections, assign pictures, rename, upload by dragging, settings; postcards with front and back (turn over, edit motif and transcription, rotate); comparison with webtrees. Faces on group photos: draw a frame, assign a person from the tree, a name only or “unknown”, name on hover; “On group photos” in the person sheet. Work windows can be minimised, maximised and resized. Family tree on this PC: back up tree and archive, Sammlungen 1.10.0 included. Needs Sammlungen 1.10.0 on the server.
1.479 Oct 2026Clear message instead of “Connection reset” when another program filters the connection to the family tree on this PC; installed with the installer, no registry writes at start-up; tests on Windows with every change.
1.469 Oct 2026Family tree on this PC: a restart of the built-in server no longer ends up on a different port than wtWin uses (Windows held the old port); the start-up check no longer shows 404 in the log (issue #9).
1.459 Oct 2026Family tree on this PC: at most two requests at a time to the built-in PHP server, dropped connections retried and the server restarted if needed, a real check at start-up, and wtWin’s own log wtwin.log next to php.log (issue #9).
1.449 Oct 2026Bug fixes: on Windows, lists, the person sheet and charts showed “?” instead of the marriage symbol ⚭ (issue #10); the descendants book showed “?” instead of persons whose download had failed (issue #9).
1.438 Oct 2026Bug fix: in the navigator the first child did not react to click or double click, and a right click on it opened the menu of the last child (issue #8).
1.428 Oct 2026New Windows installer with language choice (English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish) that replaces older versions by itself; “Connect with wtWin” from the browser works on Windows (a registry entry was missing); wtWin trusts the Windows certificate store, so local servers with their own certificate authority (Laragon, ServBay, XAMPP) work over https; maps with + and − buttons, Shift + double click zooms out.
1.417 Oct 2026Place type with GOV type number: GEDCOM-L allows 2 _GOVTYPE under a location record’s type; in the house section the number decides before the free text what is a house (farm, building, mill, church …) and what is a level above (village, part of town, municipality …); the place manager shows number and GOV name. Needs api4webtrees 1.18.1 (included in the local package), which also keeps _GOVTYPE, dates and sources when the type is edited.
1.407 Oct 2026Pictures in books and charts come from a cache on the PC: every picture is fetched once and kept, the next run and the charts need nothing from the server; progress line with origin and a button to continue without the remaining pictures; optional media folder on this PC per server and tree (the family tree on this PC uses its own automatically); cache size and clearing in the book dialog.
1.397 Oct 2026House section only for buildings, judged by the place type (house, farm, mill …); parts of town as chapters or in the appendix “Other places”; place names with commas or semicolons; residence and property as one entry with a period; families without a marriage date sorted by their earliest event; occupations split in the index; natural sorting in the place manager.
1.386 Oct 2026Password-protected sites: webtrees behind the web server’s own password protection (.htaccess/.htpasswd) – enter the credentials once on the address screen; sent only to that server, the webtrees password is still never stored.
1.376 Oct 2026Research tasks (webtrees’ `_TODO`, also from the plausibility check), bookmarks in webtrees’ favourites with favourites for the whole tree, recent changes of the tree, reordering of partnerships and children, compact merge dialog. Needs api4webtrees 1.18 (API level 30, the interface is complete).
1.366 Oct 2026Merging individuals with preview, log and undo (tree managers, needs api4webtrees 1.17); family view rebuilt: ancestors of both partners over 2 to 4 generations, couple cards, status line, children with spouses and grandchildren, connected by lines and fitted to the window height; “Delete person” in menus and right-click; check rule 219 also compares christening, death and burial; wtAnd: F-Droid descriptions prepared.
1.355 Oct 2026Houses and farms as places of their own (GEDCOM-L): shown below their place with a History tab, and a house section in the family book with residents, owners and cross-references. Needs api4webtrees 1.15.
1.343 Oct 2026Place manager with map, GOV hierarchy, merging and cleaning up; larger Navigator; home person as in webtrees; notes and media in the person sheet.
1.331 Oct 2026Five languages (Deutsch, English, Français, Nederlands, Español), switchable without a restart.
1.321 Oct 2026Enter godparents and witnesses, marriage type in the event dialog.
1.311 Oct 2026Show godparents and witnesses, “Godparent at …” on every person, civil and religious wedding kept separate.
1.2930 Sep 2026Source manager with citing and scans, family view, person table, simple input mode; GEDCOM import as robust as in webtrees.
1.2829 Sep 2026Selectable Navigator style, full screen in the tree, demo family tree with sources.

1.2528 Sep 2026Charts, second round: timeline, relationship path, box shapes, templates.
1.2428 Sep 2026New chart types, colors with legend, large print up to the plotter, person cards.
1.2327 Sep 2026Plausibility check with 61 rules, presets and ticking off.
1.2227 Sep 2026Plausibility check on the PC (47 rules).
1.2127 Sep 2026Connecting without typing, via the “App” page in webtrees.
